Introducing ASP.NET Core 1.0

Yesterday, Scott Hanselman announced via his blog, that ASP.NET 5 is dead. At quick look, some may have been a bit nervous. However, ASP.NET 5 isn’t really dead. Rather, Microsoft Marketing corrected itself and properly renamed the framework to ASP.NET Core 1.0. This is rather significant. If you haven’t reviewed ASP.NET 5 yet, the name had mass confusion around the community. See, you cannot simply open up an ASP.NET 4.5.2 or ASP.NET 4.6 project and upgrade it to ASP.NET 5. Some of the code may just work. But much of it will not. I’m glad the marketing team listened to the community and changed the name and can’t wait to see what comes in ASP.NET Core in the future!

To download ASP.NET Core, visit Note, at the time I published this, the name ASP.NET 5 is still being used on the site. But, it’s really ASP.NET Core 1.0.
